The short version: some links on this site earn a commission if you buy through them. It never costs you anything extra, and it never determines what gets recommended. The longer version is below, because you deserve to know exactly how this works.
The disclosure itself
The Garden Den is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. The Garden Den also participates in other affiliate programs and earns commissions on qualifying purchases made through links on this site.

What an affiliate link actually is
When a guide here recommends a compost bin or a pair of pruners, the link to that product usually carries a tracking code. If you click it and buy something, the retailer pays a small percentage of the sale as a commission.
Two things worth being clear about:
- You pay exactly the same price. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not out of your pocket. There is no surcharge and no worse deal for using the link.
- You’re not obliged to use them. If you’d rather search for the product yourself, or buy it from a local garden centre, that’s genuinely fine. The guide is the same either way.
Every affiliate link on this site is marked with rel="sponsored nofollow", which is how search engines are told the link is commercial. Any page containing affiliate links also carries a visible disclosure at the top, before you read anything else.
How products get recommended
This is the part that matters, so it’s worth stating plainly:
- Commission rates never decide the recommendation. Where a better product pays less, which happens often, the better product still wins.
- Nobody can buy a placement. No brand has ever paid to appear on this site, and none will. If that ever changes, it will be labelled as advertising, unmistakably.
- Recommendations follow from the use case. The best compost bin for a small balcony is not the best compost bin for a half-acre plot, and guides here try to say which is which rather than crowning a single winner.
- Not everything is worth buying. Where a tool is overpriced, badly made, or unnecessary, the guide says so. A recommendation is only worth reading if the alternative was possible.

Prices, specifications and stock levels change constantly, and any price mentioned in a guide was accurate when written. Always check the current price on the retailer’s own page before buying. That page, not this one, is the authority on what something costs today.
Why this exists at all
Affiliate commissions are what pay for The Garden Den: the hosting, the tools, the time it takes to research a guide properly instead of rewording someone else’s. There’s no paywall and no subscription. If a link here is useful to you, using it genuinely helps keep the site running.
If it isn’t useful, don’t use it. That’s the deal.
